I know. It sounds lame. Uninteresting. Boring even. BUT! It is delicious. Simple. And nourishing.
Ayurveda says that fruit in the morning is like gold. It’s the best time to get the maximum nourishment from fruit. Cooked apples in the morning help create ojas. We want ojas! Ojas is beauty, health and immunity.
If you’re a light-breakfast kinda person, like me, this will be perfect! If you need a heartier breakfast, eat the stewed apples 30 minutes before you eat anything else for best digestion. Ok! On to…
The Recipe:
- 1 cup water
- 1 apple chopped up. If it’s not organic, remove the peel
- ¼ cup raisins
- 2 cloves
- Dash of cinnamon
- Dash of ginger
- Dash of cardamom
Put everything in a pan, bring to a boil then reduce heat to low. Cook for 20 minutes with the lid on. If you tend to forget about things on the stove in the morning, set a timer or add extra water. I once forgot about my lovely apple on the stove and burned the crap out of it… Sadface.
There ya have it. Easy breakfast. It makes me feel warm and happy. Apples are especially good for pittas and kaphas, and by cooking the apple, it makes it great for vatas too!
