Abhyanga is a warm oil massage, and it is one of the most important parts of a self-care routine. In Hindi, sneha means oil, and it also means love. It is a truly wonderful thing to do for yourself. This DIY body oil can be applied before or after a shower, and anytime your skin needs some affection.
Feel free to substitute your preferred herbs and spices.
The recipe:
- 1 whole vanilla bean
- 4 cloves
- 1 tbsp lavender flowers
- 1 tbsp dried rose petals
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 15 cardamom pods
- 3 whole star anise
- 5 drops orange essential oil
- 1 pint of almond oil (or safflower, sesame, or grape seed)
Cut the vanilla bean in half (lengthwise and widthwise) to expose more surface area. I crush all the cardamom pods so that they are open. Throw everything in a jar with a pint of almond oil. Mark with the date and set by a warm window. Shake everyday for 4 weeks and then strain the oil, or use the oil unfiltered if you would like.
If your skin doesn’t feel the sneha after this, maybe you should try some flowers and a Hallmark card.
